 Shannon Lavell

Shannon Lavell received her B.A. from the University of Winnipeg in psychology and politics. She received her LL.B. from the University of Ottawa.

During her degree, Shannon was a caseworker in the University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic Women’s Division.  As such, she was actively involved in all aspects of Clinic functioning, with a focus on assisting women clients with Criminal Injuries Compensation Board (CICB) claims.  She was involved with LEAF (Women's Legal Education and Action Fund), attended the LEAF “No Means No’ facilitator training, and researched and designed a legal rights presentation for adolescent parents.

An interest in criminal justice reform prompted her to arrange a for-credit shadowing program with Ottawa Duty Counsel in the Drug Treatment and Mental Health Courts. The highlight of her degree was a six month international exchange to Lund University in Sweden. During that time, Shannon researched the Swedish system of joint criminal/civil compensation trials and, in her major paper, assessed the desirability and feasibility of a similar system in the Canadian context.

Shannon completed her articles at the Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic in Toronto. The Barbra Schlifer Clinic is multi-disciplinary, providing legal, counselling and interpretive services to women who have experienced domestic violence. Shannon focused on family and immigration law.

Called to the Bar in 2010, Shannon joined the newly formed Sinding & Associates in February 2011. She is happy to assist you in the areas of family, child protection and employment law, as well as with Criminal Injuries Compensation Claims.

Shannon is excited to be making Kenora her family's permanent home. Shannon is interested in environmental and socio-economic issues. Other passions include horses and riding, dancing, running, travel and photography.
